What is a Psychological Evaluation?
A psychological evaluation or psychological assessment is a set of questionnaires, clinical interviews, and standardized tests administered by an appropriately licensed individual. The objective is to gain a complete picture of an individual’s overall mental well-being and functioning. Psychological assessments measure an individual’s cognitive abilities, strengths, areas of continued growth, emotional functioning, and psychological well-being. Psychological assessment may also inform personality traits and temperament, how one handles stress, and academic and learning functioning.
Why Psychological Evaluation?
Psychological evaluation aims to gain a deeper understanding of cognitive abilities, personality characteristics, behavioral patterns over time, and diagnostic clarifications in a briefer time frame. Psychological assessment may provide objective data to inform treatment plans and interventions in therapy or other important settings such as career, or school.

Assessments:
Intelligence Assessments
What is an intelligence assessment?
Intellectual assessment is a process used by psychologists, or other qualified professionals, to measure a person’s cognitive abilities. It helps to understand how well someone thinks, learns, solves problems, and adapts to new situations. The goal is not just to assign a score, but to gain a deeper understanding of a person’s strengths and areas where they may struggle.

1. Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale- 5 (WAIS-V)
a. The Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (5) is a tool used to measure cognitive abilities or functioning. It is designed to measure how an individual thinks, reasons, and solves problems across several domains of cognitive abilities in older adolescents and adults ages 16-90 years of age. The WAIS-5 also informs psychologists of an individual’s intellectual strengths and areas of growth. The WAIS-5 assesses for learning difficulties and cognitive decline, or it may aid in psychological diagnosis.
b. The WAIS-5 is administered by qualified individuals, usually a psychologist, who have undergone training to do so. The assessment takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete. An Individual will be asked to perform various tasks, some of which are verbal, like answering questions. Others are non-verbal like solving puzzles or identifying patterns. The test is administered in a structured environment and the administrator will explain how to complete each task.
c. After completion of the WAIS-5, it will take some time to score and interpret the information gathered during the assessment. Once that information has been adequately analyzed and interpreted, there will be a follow-up feedback session where the results will be shared and explained thoroughly. There will be a chance for one to ask questions and work through any thoughts or feelings about the results.
2. Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children – 5 (WISC-V)
a. The Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children (5) is a widely used assessment that measures cognitive abilities or functioning in children ages sixteen years of age. The information gathered through each task on the WISC-5 helps the psychologist understand how the child thinks, reasons, and problem-solve. The WISC-5 also provides valuable insights into a child’s intellectual strengths and areas of growth. The results of a WISC-5 can aid in making decisions regarding a child’s education, treatment, and other areas of support.
b. The WISC-5 takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete and is administered by a qualified individual who has been trained in how to administer the assessment. The child will be asked to complete several tasks, some involve verbal tasks such as answering questions, and others are non-verbal tasks like solving puzzles or looking for patterns. The administrator will explain to the child how to complete each task.
c. Once the WISC-5 is completed, the administrator will need to analyze and interpret the information that was gathered during the assessment. Once the information has been gathered and interpreted, a follow-up session will be scheduled where the administrator will go over the results with you and answer any questions or concerns you may have about the results.

Personality Assessments
What is a personality Assessment?
Personality assessment is a process used by psychologists to understand a person’s characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. The goal is to gain a clearer picture of someone’s unique personality traits and how they might influence various aspects of their life, such as relationships, work, and emotional well-being. Personality assessments are commonly used in clinical settings, but they’re also used in workplaces, educational settings, and even for self-reflection.
1. Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI)
a. The personality assessment inventory is a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 344 items that an individual responds to using a 4-point scale (from false to true) to describe how accurately a statement may resonate with them. The PAI is designed to give a deeper look into a person’s personality traits, emotional states, and behavioral patterns. The PAI may aid in the process of diagnosis, identifying prominent psychological symptoms of distress, such as symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and others. The results of a PAI may also guide treatment plans and interventions and monitor how one may be changing in response to treatment over time.
b. The PAI takes approximately 60 minutes to complete and is scored, reviewed, and interpreted by a qualified professional. The PAI is a self-report questionnaire and is self-administered. The PAI is administered to adults 18 years or older. The PAI also offers a version for adolescents ages 12-18 (PAI-A).
The individual completing the questionnaire will be provided with both brief and clear instructions on how to complete the questionnaire.
c. Once the PAI has been completed, the results will be sent back to the psychologist or qualified professional to be scored and reviewed. Once the results have been reviewed and interpreted, a follow-up feedback session can be scheduled. At this session, one can anticipate discussing the results of the questionnaire, and a chance to discuss and questions or concerns regarding the results.

2. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2
a. The MMPI-2, or Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, is one of the most widely used psychological assessments for evaluating a person’s mental health, personality, and emotional functioning. It’s a self-report questionnaire, which means you’ll be asked to answer a series of statements about yourself. Based on how you respond, the MMPI-2 provides a detailed picture of your psychological well-being and can help a psychologist understand how you think, feel, and behave.
b. The MMPI-2 is designed to assess various psychological conditions, personality traits, and mental health symptoms. It consists of 567 true-or-false questions that cover a wide range of topics related to your behavior, thoughts, emotions, and attitudes. The test is structured to assess things like psychological symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, paranoia, and others. The MMPI-2 also measures personality characteristics such as introversion and extroversion, and behavioral tendencies such as impulsivity or coping abilities.
c. The MMPI-2 is utilized for adults ages 18 and over. There is an adolescent version of the MMPI-2 utilized for individuals ages 14-18. The MMPI-2 is self-administered. The psychologist or qualified professional will provide you with brief and clear instructions on how to complete the questionnaire. The MMPI-2 takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete. Once the questionnaire has been completed, the qualified professional or psychologist will review and interpret the results. Once the results have been interpreted a follow-up feedback session will be scheduled. At the feedback session one can expect to go over the results of the questionnaire. The feedback session is also a time to go over any questions or concerns one may have regarding the results.
